Sorry that it has been so long since we last blogged. With the holiday season, full time jobs and a myriad of other "excuses," we have been woefully neglectful in keeping you all updated! In any case, here's to turning over a new leaf. Besides, that is what the new year is for, right?
Since we last posted, there have been some really great things occurring for 4ever recap! First of all, we plan to attend our first expo: Sustainable Preparedness Expo 2013 in Chattanooga, TN on March 10th, 2013. This looks to be a great opportunity to learn more about the necessities of homesteading and returning to a state of self-reliance. We are truly excited for the opportunity to meet with like-minded individuals and to learn more about what we can do to escape the captivity of dependence on society.
Incidentally, upon contacting the expo organizer, Nick, we were asked to present a canning demo during the expo and we said, "Yes!" This is going to be an outstanding opportunity for us to be able to share our knowledge and love of canning while, I'm sure, learning some new tricks from seminar attendees. We are truly blessed to have such an opportunity!
Also, we have delved into the dehydrating side of food preservation. As a Christmas gift, we received our first food dehydrator. We have already made a batch of jerky from round steak and are pumped about the prospect of making some killer fruit leather. Sorry that we didn't have a chance to blog about the jerky experience, but with family polishing that off pretty quickly, we will definitely have another batch cooking in no time. Personally, I am most excited about my childhood favorite: banana chips. That is probably the next adventure! Do you have a favorite dehydrated food? Leave a comment below!
Until then...
Keep Calm
and
Can On
